Capitals force Game 7 with Penguins

The Washington Capitals cruised to a 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena, knotting the series at three games apiece and forcing a decisive Game 7 on Wednesday night in the District. Andre Burakovsky scored twice to pace the Caps attack, which built a five-goal lead before the Penguins scored two meaningless late goals.

The New York Rangers will host the Ottawa Senators (NBCSN - 7:30 pm) in the only Stanley Cup playoff game on the docket tonight. The Senators can advance with a victory.

In Florida Panthers news, Nick Bjugstad registered three shots on goal, went 3 of 6 on draws, and finished with a even rating in 12:55 TOI in the United States 4-3 win over Sweden at the 2017 IIHF World Championship. JT Compher scored the game-winner for the Americans with 9:13 left in regulation.

Mike Matheson collected an assist in Canada’s 6-0 rout over Belarus. Matheson drew a helper on Jeff Skinner’s goal, which put the Canadians up by four. The 23-year-old logged 18:56 TOI, had two shots on goal, and finished with a +2 rating. Jason Demers registered one shot on goal and finished with a +1 rating in 19:28 TOI.

Denis Malgin and Switzerland will be in action today when they take on co-host France in Paris.
