Hutchinson returned to Springfield opening up a roster spot

NHL: Detroit Red Wings at Florida Panthers Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

The Florida Panthers return to the ice with an 11 a.m. practice scheduled at Panthers IceDen in Coral Springs.

Florida will take on the Edmonton Oilers Thursday at the BB&T Center in its first game after returning from Helsinki. Want to get a good look at Coonor McDavid and the Oilers? They will be playing the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7:30 on NBCSN tonight.

Speaking of Finland, Winnipeg Jets forward Brendan Lemieux, son of Claude, has been suspended for two games for the illegal check to the head he laid on Vincent Trocheck. Good job, Department of Player Safety!

The Panthers made a roster move yesterday, returning goaltender Michael Hutchinson to the AHL Springfield Thunderbirds. That will probably push Chris Driedger down to the ECHL at some point. Driedger isn’t Panther property anyways, so not much of an issue.

Florida is now carrying 22 players, one below the max. Look for forward Micheal Haley to take that spot soon.

I try very hard to avoid politics on the LBC, but whatever your personal views on the matter are, get out and vote today. It’s the foundation of our constitutional republic and it’s a real shame so many Americans don’t bother to do it - especially in midterm elections.
