MacKenzie has surgery, out indefinitely

Tuesday, the Florida Panthers announced that forward and former captain Derek MacKenzie has undergone successful shoulder surgery and will be out of the lineup indefinitely. The 37-year-old appeared in one game with the Cats this season and is currently in his fifth season with the team.

The Panthers are scheduled to practice on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Panthers IceDen. Florida will host the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.

Speaking of the Oilers, they were soundly beaten 5-2 last night by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Edmonton is 1-2 on its four-game road trip which ends in Sunrise.

The Panthers have played a league-low 11 games this season and have collected just 9 points, fewest in the league,
