37-year-old defenseman Brooks Orpik signed a $1 million, one-year contract with $500,000 in performance bonuses to return to the Washington Capitals. General manager Brian MacLellan announced the deal Tuesday about a month after trading Orpik and goaltender Philipp Grubauer to Colorado in a cost-saving move.
