The Florida Panthers comeback win over the New Jersey Devils yesterday afternoon allowed the struggling club to snap a three-game losing streak and return home to Sunrise with four out of a possible six points.
Florida is now 2-2-2 and will not play again until Friday, when they host the exciting and currently undefeated Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche will do battle with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night, so hopefully they will be a little tired come the end of the week.
On Sunday, the Springfield Thunderbirds posted its second win of the AHL season with a 5-2 road decision over the Providence Bruins. Blaine Byron (1), Joel Lowry (2), Kevin Roy (1), Anthony Greco (1) and Daniel Audette (1) scored the goals. Ian McCoshen and Ethan Prow each had two assists and Lowry, Greco, Roy and Dominic Toninato added helpers. Chris Driedger continues to give the T-Birds standout goaltending. He stopped 33 of 35 shots to even his record at 2-2. Driedger sports a 2.26 GAA and .936 save percentage.
The ECHL opened its 32d season this weekend and the Greenville Swamp Rabbits scored a 4-3 overtime win over the Jacksonville Icemen in Jacksonville on Saturday night. Patrick Bajkov finished the game with one shot on goal and a -1 rating. Ryan Bednard served as the backup to Callum Booth. Cliff Pu who was with the Swamp Rabbits during the training camp did not play and was bumped back up to Springfield on Sunday.
