Schwartz hat trick ends Jets’ season

Jaden Schwartz notched a natural hat trick and the St. Louis Blues withstood a late rally to eliminate the Winnipeg Jets with a 3-2 win at Enterprise Center. It was the first time the home team won in the series, which St. Louis won four games to two. Schwartz scored once in each period and Jordan Binnington stopped 18 shots at the other end. Dustin Byfuglien and Bryan Little scored for the Jets in third to make things interesting late.

Niklas Backstrom scored two goals and set up tow others and Alex Ovechkin tallied and collected two helpers in the Washington Capitals 6-0 rout of the visiting Carolina Hurricanes. Braden Holtby made 30 saves as the Stanley Cup champions took a three to two leads in the series. Brett Connolly, Tom Wilson and Nic Dowd scored the other Washington goals. Dowd’s penalty shot goal was the first in franchise playoff history.

Alexander Radulov and Jason Dickinson each scored twice as the Dallas Stars took a three games to two series lead with a 5-3 victory over the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena. Tyler Seguin bagged the other Dallas goal and added a helper and Jamie Benn helped set up three goals. Rocco Grimaldi, Ryan Johansen and Kyle Turris scored for Nashville which faces a must win situation Monday night in Dallas.

  • Owen Tippett set up Damien Giroux’s game-opening goal in the first period and Bode Wilde’s game-tying goal with 1:17 left in regulation as the Saginaw Spirit rallied for 4-3 overtime win over the Guelph Storm. Saginaw leads the series two games to zero. Tippett finished with six shots on goal and a +2 rating.
  • Serron Noel scored a goal in the Oshawa Generals 7-3 loss to the Ottawa 67s. The 67s now lead the series two games to none. Noel’s late first period marker tied the game at 2-2. Noel registered three shots on goal and finished with an even rating.
