A horrible call in the third period opened the door and the San Jose Sharks walked through it, defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 5-4 in overtime to win the series in seven games. The Golden Knights led 3-0, on goals from William Karlsson, Cody Eakin and Max Pacioretty, midway through the final frame when Eakin was handed a five-minute major for cross-checking Joe Pavelski. At most, the call should have been a two-minute minor and it’s debatable if it was even a penalty at all. The Sharks took full advantage of the major, ripping off four goals in a span of 4:01. Kevin Labanc scored the fourth goal and drew an assists on the others by Logan Couture (twice) and Tomas Hertl to set a playoff record for fastest four points in NHL history. Former Florida Panthers forward Jonathan Marchessault tied the game at 19:13 with Marc-Andre Fleury off for an extra attacker. Barclay Goodrow won it 18:19 into overtime when he took a pass from Erik Karlsson and skated around Brayden McNabb before depositing the puck behind Fleury.
Tuukka Rask made 32 saves and the Boston Bruins took advantage of a turnover prone Toronto Maple Leafs defense to win Game 7 by a 5-1 count. The Bruins got goals from its bottom-six to build a lead it would not relinquish. Joakim Nordstrom, Marcus Johansson and Sean Kuraly beat Frederik Andersen and Charlie Coyle and Patrice Bergeron added empty-netters. John Tavares scored the only goal for the Maple Leafs, who lost in seven games to the Bruins for the second consecutive year. Boston will face the Columbus Blue Jackets next.
