Curtis McElhinney made 28 stops in his first playoff start and Justin Williams scored the go-ahead goal with 9:45 remaining in regulation before Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho tacked on empty-netters, giving the Carolina Hurricanes a 5-2 win over the New York Islanders. The Hurricanes took a commanding three games to nothing lead in the series. Teravainen opened the scoring and Justin Faulk also lit the lamp for the host Hurricanes. Devon Toews and Josh Bailey came up with the goals for New York.
Centers Tyler Seguin and Roope Hintz switched lines and the move by coach Jim Montgomery paid off in spades for the Dallas Stars, who beat the visiting St. Louis Blues 4-2 to even the series at two games apiece. Hintz scored a goal and Seguin, Jamie Benn and Alexander Radulov each finished with two assists. Jason Dickinson, Jason Spezza and John Klingberg also scored for Dallas, while Vladimir Tarasenko and Robert Thomas found the back of the net for the Blues. Ben Bishop picked up the win with a 27-save performance.
