Stars edge Blues to take series lead

The Carolina Hurricanes ran off five consecutive goals after falling behind early to defeat the New York Islanders 5-2 in Raleigh. Carolina swept the Islanders aside to become the first team to advance to the conference finals, where they will meet the winner of the Boston-Columbus series. Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen, Greg McKegg, Justin Williams and Andrei Svechnikov scored the goals and Curtis McElhinney made 26 saves. Aho and Teravainen also added assists. Mathew Barzal opened the scoring with an early power-play goal and Brock Nelson notched the final goal of the season for the Islanders, who only managed to score five times in the four-game series.

Ben Bishop turned aside 38 shots to lead the Dallas Stars to a 2-1 road win over the St. Louis Blues. Jason Spezza scored in the first period and Esa Lindell lit the lamp in second before Jaden Schwartz took advantage of a Bishop gaffe 8:26 into the third to finally get the Blues on the board. The Stars managed to hold on the rest of the way to take a three games to two lead in the series. Jordan Binnington was the hard-luck loser, finishing with 25 saves.
