Goaltender earns another year with the organization

The Florida Panthers have re-signed restricted fee agent goaltender Sam Montembeault to a one-year, two-way contract

The 24-year-old Montembeault appeared in 14 regular season games with the Panthers during the 2019-20 season, posting a 5-5-1 record, .890 save percentage and 3.34 goals against average. The 6-foot-3, 199-pound native of Becancour, Quebec, also appeared in 11 regular season games with the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds, posting a 5-5-1 record, .918 save percentage, 3.00 goals against average and one shutout.

Originally selected by Florida in the third round (77th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Montembeault has played in 25 career NHL regular season games, all with the Cats producing a 9-8-3 record, .892 save percentage and a 3.20 goals against average.

Forwards Aleksi Saarela and Henrik Borgstrom, both currently playing in Finland’s Liiga, and minor-league defenseman Emil Djuse, enjoying a successful stint in the KHL with Spartak Moscow, are Florida’s remaining restricted free agents.
