Heponiemi notches shootout winner for MODO; Liiga shuts down

Switzerland v Finland: Semifinals - 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship

Florida Panthers prospect Aleksi Heponiemi scored the winning (and only) goal in the shootout to lead MODO Hockey to a 3-2 win over Sodertalje in Wednesday action from HockeyAllsvenskan in Sweden.

Florida’s second round choice in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft finished the game with two shots on goal, won 7 of 19 faceoffs, and posted an even rating while logging 18:20 of ice time.

In Finland’s Liiga, KooKoo blew out Aces by a 6-1 count in the last game played before the league will take a break due to the effects of covid-19. Games scheduled between December 3 and December 19 have been postponed. The league’s website currently shows play resuming on December 26. The postponement directly affects Panthers players and prospects Aleksi Saarela (Lukko), Anton Lundell (HIFK), Henrik Borgstrom (HIFK), Sanntu Kinnunen (Tappara) and Kasper Puutio (a part-time player with Karpat).
