It’s been eleven days since the NHL put the 2019-20 season on pause. As time goes on, a resumption to the campaign seems less and less likely. So far just two players, both members of the Ottawa Senators, have tested positive for the coronavirus. The league has various timelines that is working with, but as reported last week, its main focus is on playing a complete 82-game 2020-21 season. Tonight, the Florida Panthers were scheduled to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs for the fourth and final time in a game that might have had huge playoff implications. So much for that...
This morning (ESPN) has a good article that addresses a lot of what the league is looking at right now.
Sportsnet has updated its list of the Top-20 UFAs of 2020 to account for the trade deadline and certain players (looking at you, Chris Krieder) that have signed extensions. The Florida Panthers have three players (Evgenii Dadonov #7, Mike Hoffman #8 and Erik Haula #15) on the list. (Sportsnet)
There is one more signing to add to what turned out to be a busy weekend of transactions. The Vegas Golden Knights have inked forward Zach Whitecloud to a two-year, one-way extension. Whitecould has made 16 appearances for the Golden Knights this season and picked up his first NHL point, an assist. (Knights On Ice)
* Folks, my intention today was to finally get back to providing some Panthers-specific coverage, but unfortunately my morning got completely hijacked. Continue to bear with me as I try to get LBC back to some sense of normalcy.
