Islanders and Stars move on to round two

After easily dispatching the toothless Florida Panthers in the Qualifying Round, the New York Islanders made short work of the Washington Capitals and will move on to the second Round. Despite spotting the Calgary Flames three early goals, the Dallas Stars also advanced by running off seven straight goals to send the Flames out of the Edmonton bubble.

Tonight, we have two game elimination games on the slate. The upstart Vancouver Canucks will try to knock out the Stanley Cup champs and the Philadelphia Flyers will look to advance and face the Islanders with a win over Montreal.

New York Islanders 4, Washington Capitals 0

Anthony Beauvillier scored twice, Semyon Varlamov made 21 saves and the New York Islanders defeated the Washington Capitals 4-0 to eliminate the favored Caps. The Islanders limited the Capitals to eight goals in the five-game series. New York will face the Philadelphia Flyers or Tampa Bay Lightning in the next round.

The Islanders win the series four games to one.

Dallas Stars 7, Calgary Flames 3

Denis Gurianov scored four of seven straight goals by the Dallas Stars in a 7-3 win against the Calgary Flames that ended the series in six games. Gurianov scored three times in a five-goal second period after the Stars fell behind 3-0 6:34 into the game. Dallas will take on the Colorado Avalanche in the next round, while the Vegas Golden Knights will draw the winner of the Vancouver - St. Louis series.

The Stars win the series four games to one.
