AHL: Rampage end losing streak with 4-2 win over Rochester

Head coach Chuck Weber made a few changes to the roster, benching underachieving veterans Jason DeSantis, Andre Deveaux, and Casey Wellman, and replacing them with help from Cincinnati in David Pacan and Jonathan Hazen and the return of Alexander Petrovic.

The Rampage scored three straight goals during the first and second periods, creating their first 3-0 lead of the season despite never reaching 10 shots in a single period against Rochester. The first goal came just five minutes into the game, with the second and third goals being scored six minutes into the second. The Americans did answer in the second at the 10 minute mark, but San Antonio scored their third goal of the period late. Entering the third with a lead for the fifth time in nine games, only one goal was allowed and the Rampage won their first road game of the season.

Rampage Heroes

  • Jacob Markstrom: The second star of the game made 29 saves (.935 Sv%) and had his third straight quality start (a save percentage over .912 or a save percentage between .885 and .912 while allowing less than three goals).
  • Jon Rheault: Rheault has seven points in his last six games, and has been the Rampage’s best skater this season. The game’s first star made an amazing pass to Jean-Francois Jacques for a goal, and had three shots on net.
  • Penalty Kill: Rochester has the seventh best powerplay in the AHL, and the guys on the PK killed all six opportunities. Even bigger props for drawling penalties against Rochester on their powerplay.

Rampage Zeroes

  • Penalties: As already mentioned, the Americans are solid on the powerplay, and one of the reasons why the Rampage never reached double digit shots in a period was because of penalties committed./

Next game is on Friday, in a weekend series against the Lake Erie Monsters; puck drops at 7:30 PM EST.
