Aleksander Barkov signs 8-year contract extension with Panthers

The Florida Panthers and Aleksander Barkov have come to terms on an eight-year, $80-million contract extension that will keep the team’s captain in South Florida through the 2029-30 season.

Florida’s 26-year-old number one center will play out the final year of a six-year, $35.4-million contract before his new bonus-laden deal kicks in at the start of the 2022-23 campaign.

Last season, Barkov produced 26 goals and 58 points in 50 games and won the Selke Trophy winner as the NHL’s top defensive forward.

One of the best two-way centers in the league, he has amassed 465 points in 529 career games after being selecting with second overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Barkov gets a full No Move Clause for the first six years of the deal.  The final two seasons of the contract carry a Modified No-Trade Clause. $72 million of the contract will be paid as salary bonus.
