Panthers trade Alex Petrovic to Oilers for Chris Wideman and 2019 third-rounder

The Florida Panthers announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Chris Wideman and a 2019 third round draft pick from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for defenseman Alexander Petrovic.

The third-round round pick will be the higher pick between the Edmonton’s own third-round draft pick and the New York Islanders’ third-round pick, which was previously acquired by the Oilers as the result of a trade on February 24, 2018 that sent Brandon Davidson to New York.

The 28-year-old Wideman has appeared in five games with Edmonton this season recording two points (0-2-2). Acquired by the Oilers in a trade on Nov. 22, 2018, Wideman also played in 19 games with the Ottawa Senators during the 2018-19 season recording five points (2-3-5). Wideman was drafted by the Senators in the fourth round (100th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and has collected 45 career points (16G/29A) in 180 career games.

Petrovic appeared in a total of 254 games for the Panthers after being drafted in the second round (36th overall) of the 2010 Entry Draft. The 26-year-old scored 5 goals and 49 points, amassed 358 PIM and leaves Florida with a career -3 rating.
