Cats Quickies: Moore, Lightning escape Sunrise with 2-1 SO victory; Panthers end homestand 3-0-3

Gotta say, this was a far bigger deal when under the firm impression this goal was in reality a no-goal. Check out the overhead feed at the 2 minute mark…

Reality, of course, was something different, as Tampa Bay’s Dominic Moore plundered a winner off Florida’s Tomas Vokoun with what to these eyes initially appeared to be a goal off the rebound.

It’s clear from the overhead, however, that former Panther Moore retained the puck on his stick with no loss of possession. Minus that view this would be an awfully tough call to make; I was personally certain a measure of pinballing had occured. Sadly for the Gatos, this was not the case. Kudos: Moore.

T’was a solid evening otherwise by Peter DeBoer’s troops tonight with a 30-21 shot advantage. Especially jonesed were the maniacal efforts of Mike Santorelli (no points, 4 SOG) and Jason Garrison (1 assist, 5 SOG); the Bolts’ Dan Ellis was remarkable not necessarily for his workload shot-wise, but the quality of what was directed his way.

Florida wraps the six game homestand with a 3-0-3 record, good for, well, 5th in the division, but little ground has been lost even in late-game collapses to Eastern rivals. Honestly though, we know the true score: summer’s around the corner.

Next up: New Jersey on Sunday, in a very early 3pm start. Live Game Thread at 2. Plan ahead.
