The Charlotte Checkers earned a split on the road over the weekend, beating the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday at XL Center before falling in Bridgeport on Saturday,
On Friday, rookie Cooper Black stopped all 20 shots faced to post his second shutout of the season as the Checkers took down the Wolf Pack by a 3-0 count. Justin Sourdif, Rasmus Asplund and Will Lockwood scored the goals and Sandis Vilmanis finished with two assists. Riley Bezeau and Michael Benning also collected helpers.
Kyle Criscuolo opened the scoring, from Sourdif and Matt Kiersted, on Saturday, but that first period marker was the only goal the Checkers would get in a 5-1 loss to the Islanders, who scored three times in the second and tacked on two more in the third period. It was a rough outing for veteran Chris Driedger, who was beaten five times on 24 shots.
The Checkers (25-14-3-2) will welcome the Wolf Pack to Bojangles Coliseum for a pair of games this weekend.
