Panthers sign Derek MacKenzie to a two-year contract extension

The Florida Panthers have officially announced that center Derek MacKenzie has signed a two year contract extension. As per usual the club is not disclosing the terms, but beat writer Harvey Fialkov and General Fanager report that the deal is worth $2.7M with an AAV of $1.35M. MacKenzie’s current contract was set to expire at the end of the upcoming season.

Mackenzie originally signed with the Panthers on July 1, 2014 as an unrestricted free agent after spending seven years with the Columbus Blue Jackets organization.

In 2014-15, MacKenzie played in all 82 regular season games and posted 5 goals and 6 assists,

Last season, the 35-year-old scored 6 goals and added 7 assists in 64 regular season games and collected one helper in the six-game playoff loss to the New York Islanders.
