Florida Panthers sign Ed Wittchow to one-year deal

The Florida Panthers have signed defenseman Ed Wittchow to a one-year, two-way contract.

Wittchow was drafted by the Cats in the sixth-round (154th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

After playing four years at the University of Wisconsin, Wittchow signed an AHL deal with the Springfield Thunderbirds.

During the 2017-17 season, he appeared in 38 games with the Thunderbirds, where he scored two goals and two assists, and racked 58 PIM to along with a -6 rating.

Wittchow also spent some time in the ECHL, suiting for 14 games with the Manchester Monarchs. His totals with Manchester included one goal, 8 assists, 17 PIM and a rating on +9.

The burly defender survived the first round of cuts and remains on the Panthers training camp roster. Look for him to head north to Springfield to continue his development with a second season in the AHL.
