2016-17 Panthers schedule released: Cats open at home on October 13

The NHL has released the full schedule for the 2016-17 season. As we learned yesterday, the Florida Panthers will open up in the friendly confines of the BB&T Center.

The Cats kick off the slate on Thursday night, October 13 against the New Jersey Devils. They will then take on the Detroit Red Wings at the BB&T Center on Saturday night, October 15, before playing their first on the road against the Tampa Bay Lightning on October 18. The Panthers will finish the season on the road against the Washington Capitals on April 9.

Notables:

  • The Panthers first meeting with the team that eliminated from the playoffs, the New York Islanders, will be at the BB&T Center on Saturday, November 12.
  • Cross-state rival Tampa Bay makes its first visit to Sunrise on Monday, November 7.
  • Florida will make its first visit to the new Rogers Place in Edmonton on January 18.
  • The Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins will make their only visit on December 8.
  • The Western Conference champion San Jose Sharks stop by the BB&T on November 10.
  • Traded defenseman Erik Gudbranson and the Vancouver Canucks will be at the BB&T Center on December 10.
