Florida Panthers at the Worlds: A recap of the semifinals

The 2015 IIHF World Championship rolled on with two semifinal games on Saturday. Both of the tilts involved members of the Florida Panthers. Aaron Ekblad and Canada defeated Jaromir Jagr and the Czech Republic while Dmitry Kulikov and the Russians shut out the U.S. to set up what should be a riveting gold medal game. The losing teams will meet for the bronze.

Canada 2, Czech Republic 0: Taylor Hall and Jason Spezza scored the goals and Arizona’s Mike Smith stopped 23 shots to post his second straight shutout in Canada’s 2-0 win over the host Czech team. Aaron Ekblad logged 13:05 of ice time and finished the game with no points or shots on net and a +1 rating. Jaromir Jagr was limited to one shot on goal in 18:02 TOI. Russia 4, USA 0: Alex Ovechkin, in his first game of the tournament, notched a goal and an assist in Russia’s four-goal, third period outburst against the Americans, who beat them in the preliminary round. Sergei Bobrovsky made 35 saves to post the shutout. Dmitry Kulikov finished the game with no points or shots on goal and a +1 rating in 19:41 TOI. For more click here
