Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov was announced as the winner of the Selke Trophy (for the second straight season) and the King Clancy Memorial Trophy on Monday.
Barkov was the top choice on 96 of the 191 ballots for the Selke Trophy, which is awarded annually to the forward who demonstrates the most skill in the defensive component of the game, and finished with 1,363 voting points. This marks the third time that he has won the award.
Barkov produced 20 goals and 71 points in 67 regular-season games and ranked second among Panthers forwards with 20:15 of ice time per game, including 3:17 on the power play and 1:31 on the penalty kill. The 29-year-old won 56.5 percent of face-offs (580 of 1,026), was second on the team in takeaways (34) and tied for third among forwards on the team with 54 blocked shots. Barkov led the Cats and was tied for fifth in the NHL (minimum 40 games played) in shot attempts percentage, with Florida taking 59.3 percent of all attempts when he was on the ice at 5-on-5. Barkov’s 1.93 xGA/60 this season was a career-best and the fourth-best among all forwards with at least 850 minutes of ice time
Teammate Sam Reinhart was second in the voting with 837 points. It was the first time that members of the same team finished one-two in the voting for the Selke. Anton Lundell and Evan Rodrigues each received one fourth place vote.
Barkov received The King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off of the ice, for the first time in his career.
