Florida Panthers All Star history notes

Asg2009_big_medium

A few trivial bits for Cat fans to chomp on before tomorrow’s game:

  • Florida has only had three players in the ASG starting lineup since the team’s inception: Pavel Bure and John Vanbiesbrouck once apiece, and Sandis Ozolinsh twice.
  • There have been a total of four overtime-decided games, the last coming in 2003 in Sunrise. For the record, this game required the first-ever ASG shootout, won by the Western Conference (homeboy Olli Jokinen missed in the SO).
  • Pavel and Valeri Bure are the eighth pair of brothers to play on the same team during an ASG (World, Toronto in 2000). They were also the last, and eventually played briefly together for Florida.
  • Hilariously unpopular Former Cat Kirk Muller is currently the fourth-youngest player in ASG history, appearing in 1985 at 19 years, 5 days old. For comparison, Sid the Kid is eleventh on the list.
  • Here’s that guy again: Pavel Bure was named MVP of the 2000 game after recording 3g-1a-4p.

Does David Booth (39gp, 19g-12a-31p, +9) deserve a spot on the Eastern All Star squad?

Yes…he’s arrived and deserves the honor 7
