Florida Panthers announce first eight cuts to roster

The Florida Panthers have gone from 51 to 43 bodies at training camp after yesterday’s doubleheader in Nashville.

Goaltender Samuel Montembeault, the Cats’ third round pick this summer, was returned to his junior club, Blainville-Boisbriand, of the QMJHL.

Forward Wade Megan and defenseman Yann Sauve, who were signed to AHL contracts, were released from their tryouts and will report to the Portland Pirates.

Also assigned to Portland were recent ELC signees, forward Chase Balisy and goaltender Colin Stevens.

Forwards Rob Flick and John McFarland, and defenseman Sena Acolatse, who racked up four penalties in Florida’s preseason opener, were released from training camp. Look for those three players to report to the Pirates as well if no one claims them on waivers.

The Panthers will face the Dallas Stars in exhibition action at the BB&T Center Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
