Florida Panthers ink Anton Stralman to three-year deal

The Florida Panthers announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman Anton Stralman on a three-year contract worth $16.5 million.

General Manager Dale Tallon has this to say:

“Anton is a veteran two-way defenseman who plays solid hockey and brings a wealth of experience and leadership to our lineup. His knowledge of the game and winning mentality will be a valuable asset for our young defensemen.”

Last season the 32-year-old Stralman appeared in 47 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning, producing 17 points (2G/15A). The 5-foot-11, 190-pound native of Tibro, Sweden, served as an alternate captain for the Bolts. He has reached the 30-point mark three times in his career and has finished each of his last eight seasons with a plus-rating.

Stralman has appeared in 749 career NHL regular season games for Tampa Bay (2014-15 to 2018-19), the New York Rangers (2011-12 to 2013-14), Columbus Blue Jackets (2009-10 to 2010-11) and Toronto Maple Leafs (2007-08 to 2008-09), producing 242 points (47G/195A) and a plus-72 rating. He has played in 104 career postseason games and has reached the Stanley Cup Final two times (2014, 2015), producing 26 points (6-20-26).

He was originally selected by the Buds in the seventh round (216th overall) of the 2005 NHL Draft.

On the international stage, Stralman, has represented Sweden at the IIHF World Championship winning a gold medal (2017) and bronze medal (2009). He played for Sweden at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
