The Florida Panthers (19-14-2) and Carolina Hurricanes (22-10-3) will play the second game of their season series tonight at Lenovo Center four days after the Cats rallied for a stunning 4-3 shootout win at Amerant Bank Arena.
Tired Florida had its four-game winning streak snapped Saturday night in a 6-2 home ice loss to the St. Louis Blues. Goals from A.J. Greer and Sam Reinhart helped the Panthers overcome a two-goal deficit, but Justin Faulk’s second period buzzer-beater took the wind out of Florida’s sails. The Blues tacked on three in the third, dropping the Cats out of a playoff position.
After having its five-game winning streak halted in Sunrise, the Hurricanes were beaten 6-4 by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday in the finale of a three-game road trip that saw Carolina uncharacteristically blow another three-goal lead. Eric Robinson, Jackson Blake, Bradly Nadeau and Andrei Svechnikov lit the lamp, but goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov had a rough go of it, surrendering five goals on 23 shots.
