Scouting Report

The Florida Panthers were coming off of their first three-game losing streak of the season as they entered their two-game series against the Dallas Stars. This however does not change the fact that Florida is one of the best teams in the NHL. Sunday will be the fifth meeting between these teams and the Panthers hold a 3-1 record against the Stars this season. Carter Verhaeghe had a hat-trick in their overtime win on Saturday as well as an assist on the overtime winner. Aaron Ekblad scored with 9.3 seconds left in overtime to snap Florida’s three-game losing streak to hold onto their third-place spot in the Central Division. The Panthers have been phenomenal on the road this season, posting a 11-5-1 away record on the year. Look for Florida to win back-to-back games against the Stars on Sunday.

Dallas has now lost three out of their last four games and are currently six points out of a playoff spot. The Stars really would have to turn it on to grab a playoff spot in the Central Division. They simply can’t match Florida’s explosive offense that ranks in the top ten of the league and averaging 3.24 goals per game. Dallas is 1-4 in their last five games played on zero days of rest and after a devastating loss on Saturday, expect that trend to continue.
