The Florida Panthers (3-1) will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they visit the Detroit Red Wings (2-1) tonight in Motown in a game that gets the national treatment on TNT.
Florida overcame a slow start, and a two-goal deficit, and looked to be on the cusp of another victory in Philadelphia, but a needless offensive zone penalty on Sam Bennett snuffed out a late power-play chance and helped swing momentum back the other way as the Cats eventually fell 5-2 to the Flyers. Sam Reinhart had a strong game, scoring a shorthanded goal and setting up a power-play marker for Bennett, which tied the tilt midway through the final frame. Anton Lundell and Brad Marchand each had an assist and are on three-game point streaks. Daniil Tarasov stopped 17 of 20 shots in his first start as a Panther.
After opening the season with a disappointing 5-1 loss against the Montreal Canadiens, the Red Wings quickly righted the ship by surprisingly sweeping a home-and-home with the Toronto Maple Leafs. On Monday, Mason Appleton beat Anthony Stolarz with 45 seconds remaining in regulation to give Detroit the win after they blew a two-goal third period lead. Dylan Larkin and James van Riemsdyk had the other goals and Cam Talbot stood on his head, making 28 saves.
