The Florida Panthers (41-22-3) will try to avoid a season-series sweep they visit the Montreal Canadiens (31-27-7) at Bell Centre to finish off a home-and-home between the two Atlantic Division rivals.
Florida offensive woes continued in Sunday afternoon’s 4-2 loss to the Canadiens at Amerant Bank Arena. Sam Reinhart and Seth Jones were the only Cats to beat former Panther Sam Montembeault, who finished with 26 saves. Down 3-2 in the third, the Panthers were only able to test Montembeault seven times in a disappointing final frame. Florida has played sixteen games since returning to action after the 4 Nations Face-Off and produced just 40 goals (not counting the shootout goal against Columbus). That’s an average of 2.5 per game, which isn’t cutting it.
The Canadiens are back on home ice and holding down the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference after snapping a five-game winless skid by beating the Panthers for the third time this season. Nick Suzuki scored the game-winning goal and added two assists and rookie sensation Lane Hutson had three helpers for the Habs, who are trying to make the postseason for the first time since 2021.
