The Florida Panthers (30-27-3) will do battle with the New Jersey Devils (29-29-2) tonight at The Rock in Newark to complete the season series, which has seen each team score a win on home ice.
Florida suffered a crushing defeat in the opener of a four-game road against the New York Isalnders on Sunday. After Sam Reinhart tied the back-and-forth tilt with 1:58 remaining in regulation, Anders Lee got around Aaron Ekblad and solved Sergei Bobrovsky with 32 seconds left on the clock to give the Islanders a 5-4 win. Sam Bennett scored twice; rookie Sandis Vilmanis bagged the third goal of his rookie campaign; and Matthew Tkachuk finished with a season-high three apples. Sergei Bobrovsky had a rough night, yiedling the five goals on 26 shots.
The Devils ended an ugly five-game losing streak with a 3-1 win in St. Louis on Saturday to get back to NHL .500. Former Panther Jacob Markstrom made 25 saves and Timo Meier, Dougie Hamilton and Nico Hischier got the goals for desperate New Jersey, who like the Panthers are a long-shot to make the postseason.
