Late night action is on tap as the Florida Panthers (16-9-2) will open a difficult five-game road trip when they face the Seattle Kraken (14-14-1) tonight at Climate Pledge Arena.
After claiming three out of a possible four points in Pennsylvania, the Panthers returned home to convincingly defeat the San Jose Sharks 3-1 on Saturday night before heading back out on the road. Matthew Tkachuk scored the game’s first two goals and Aleksander Barkov tacked on a second period power-play marker to provide the offense. After three consecutive Spencer Knight starts, Sergei Bobrovsky was between the pipes and made 28 saves. The red-hot Tkachuk, who was named First Star of the Week by the NHL, has points in six straight games while his center, Sam Bennett is on a seven-game run.
The Kraken return to Seattle after posting wins over the Carolina Hurricanes, New York Islanders and the New York Rangers during the course of a four-game road trip. Sunday’s afternoon’s exciting 7-5 win over the Rangers at Madison Squarer Garden got the fourth-year club back to NHL .500. Former Panther Jared McCann leads the Kraken in goals (10) and points (23). This will be first time the Cats face defenseman Brandon Montour since he departed in free agency this past summer.
