Florida Panthers Aleksander Barkov and Anton Lundell are golden after Finland edged host Switzerland 1-0 in overtime at Swiss Life Arena in Zurich when Buffalo Sabres forward Konsta Helenius scored an electrifying goal 10:42 into the extra session with Lundell drawing the primary assist.

Lundell logged 22:52 of ice time, was credited with four shots on goal, won two of his five draws, and completed the game with a big plus-one rating for the Finns. He finished the tournament with four goals and three assists in ten games.

Barkov received 22:20 of ice time in the final, went 11 of 17 in the dot, and was credited with one shot on goal. He led Finland with eight assists and 11 points during the World Championship. A very encouraging sign for Florida’s captain going into the 2026-27 NHL season.

Finland won its first gold medal since 2022 and third in the last seven years. Switzerland has now appeared in five gold-medal games since 2013, and lost them all.

The bronze medal game saw Norway stun Canada 3-2 overtime on Noah Steen’s goal. Norway claimed its first medal in IIHF history in any top-division tournament.

Memorial Cup

Panthers prospect Shea Busch was held without a point in the Everett Silvertips 6-2 loss to the Kitchener Rangers in the final of the 2026 Memorial Cup in Kelowna, British Columbia. Busch registered three shots on goal, and finished the tilt with a minus-one rating.
