Memorial Cup: Remparts eliminate Clapperton, Oceanic with 5-2 win

And then there were three. The host Quebec Remparts skated to a 5-2 win over the Rimouski Oceanic last night to advance to tonight’s semifinal game at the 2015 Mastercard Memorial Cup. The Remparts will face WHL champs, the Kelowna Rockets at 7:30 pm at Colisee Pepsi.

Jerome Verrier scored the opening goal and added another late in the second period while Adam Erne potted the eventual game-winner for Quebec 44 seconds after the Oceanic tied the tilt at two.

Anthony Duclair and Marc-Olivier Roy netted the other Rempart goals while Samuel Morin and Jeremy Lepine scored for Rimouski.

Montreal draftee Zachary Fucale made 30 saves to get the win while Philippe Desrosiers turned aside 26 shots in a losing effort.

Florida Panthers prospect Chris Clapperton finished with three shots on goal and a -1 rating in his final game of the season. Clapperton scored two goals and added an assist, with a -1 rating and 14 shots on goal in four tournament games.
