The Florida Panthers continued to add its organization depth by re-upping forwards Corban Knight and Garrett Wilson, who both spent the majority of their time with the San Antonio Rampage last season, to one-year, two-way deals.
Knight was drafted by the Cats in 2009 (135th overall), but wasn’t interested in signing with the club and was dealt to Calgary for a fourth round pick in 2013. That pick was used to select defenseman Michael Downing. Florida re-acquired the 24-year-old center last season for fellow pivot Drew Shore. Knight scored 8 goals and 16 assists in 36 games with the Rampage after trade. He has played a total of 9 NHL games, scoring one goal. With the Panthers depth at center, look for Knight to spend next season with the Portland Pirates and perhaps see some call up duty with the big club.
Wilson was drafted by the Panthers 107th overall in the 2009 draft. He established AHL career-highs with 23 goals and 38 points in 71 games with San Antonio last season. Wilson also got into two games with the Cats in 2014-15, but did not register a point in either. With a good training camp, the blossoming 24-year-old winger could take one of the roster spots opened up by the departures of veterans Scottie Upshall, Tomas Kopecky and Brad Boyes.
