Recap: Khudobin stops 30 as Stars best Panthers 3-0
Cats get blanked for the first time this season
Tyler Seguin scored twice and added an assist and Anton Khudobin stopped 30 shots to lead the Dallas Stars to a 3-0 win over the Florida Panthers.
Khudobin made his third straight start in place of the injured Ben Bishop and posted the his second shutout of the season and the eighth of his career.
Roberto Luongo started for the Panthers and turned away 16 of the 18 shots he faced.
Seguin bagged his first goal 11:47 into the first period when he worked a give-and-go with rookie Roope Hintz and sped into the slot unmarked to deflect the return pass over Luongo’s blocker. Alex Radulov picked up the second assist on the play.
The Stars used a heavy forecheck to hem the Cats in their and double the lead with 7:21 left in the second. Jamie Benn sent the puck from behind to Seguin in the right circle and he backhanded it Esa Lindell in front and he was able to quickly finish.
Seguin completed the scoring with 2:12 left in regulation with an empty-netter from deep in his own end with the lone assist going to Radulov.
***
A disappointing loss as the Panthers did a good job in holding the Stars to 19 shots on goal and won a lot of faceoffs. The Cats only needed to come up three to win this one, but came up completely empty. Derick Brassard hit the post early in the game and I remember a good little flurry on a second period power play, but that’s about it. The Cats went 0-for-4 with the man-advantage and just didn’t generate enough quality scoring chances, making it an easy night for Khudobin and the visiting Stars.
