ReCat: The Jagr’d Edge

On Thursday night in Sunrise, the Panthers used a complete team effort to handily defeat the mighty Capitals of Washington, 4-1.

Jaromir Jagr (9) scored his 731st career goal less than a minute into the first period, Jonathan Huberdeau earned two assists on the night, and eight other Cats got onto the scoresheet for Florida. In goal, backup netminder Al Montoya came up one save short of his sixth career shutout.

Alex Ovechkin (14) notched Washington’s marker just after the Panthers killed off an extended Caps power play with just over two minutes remaining in the contest. Aaron Ekblad (6), Brandon Pirri (6, PP), and Logan Shaw (2, EN) lit the lamp for the Panthers. Dmitry Kulikov, Vincent Trocheck, Willie Mitchell, Jussi Jokinen, and Brian Campbell also earned points with one assist each.

Montoya saved 20-of-21 shots on net, while Philipp Grubauer took the loss by allowing three goals on 25 shots.

Next up for the Panthers is a trip to Boston to take on the Bruins at 1PM on Saturday afternoon. Japers’ Rink has more on Washington, and Stanley Cup of Chowder has the Bruins for you. In the meantime, come back here again and again for all the Panthers you can handle.
