Stanley Cup Gameday 6: Florida Panthers at Edmonton Oilers

Graphic design: Francisco Oporta

The Florida Panthers hope the third time is the charm when they faceoff against the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final at Rogers Place, looking to clinch the first championship in franchise history.

After working its way to a three-game lead, the Panthers have lost 8-1 and 5-3 to the Oilers, necessitating an unwanted return to the capital of Alberta.

For the second straight game, the Panthers power play gagged up an early shorthanded goal, forcing the team to play catch-up the rest of Game 5. They fought valiantly to the end, but came up a goal short before Connor McDavid ended it with an empty-netter.

Paul Maurice will make some minor tweaks to his lineup tonight, hoping to push his group over the finish line.

Nick Cousins will join Kevin Stenlund and Ryan Lomberg on the fourth line. Oliver Ekman-Larsson will quarterback the first power-play unit. And Carter Verhaeghe and Evan Rodrigues will stay on the first and second lines, after being swapped during Tuesday’s game.
