Friday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

There were NHL games yesterday! Ok, so they were prospect games, but still…

The Columbus Blue Jackets edged the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 in overtime in the first game from the NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan. Columbus overcame a two-goal deficit to eventually win the tilt in the extra session. Cole Fonstad, Tristan Mullin, Yegor Chinakov and Josh Dunne (GWG) scored for the Blue Jackets. Alex Steeves, Semyon Der-Arguchintsev and Matt Hellickson scored for the Maple Leafs.

Kirill Tyutyayev scored twice and Lucas Raymond, Joe Veleno and Chase Pearson also lit the lamp as the host Detroit Red Wings beat the Dallas Stars 5-4 in the night game from Traverse City. Riley Tufte scored twice for the Stars, who also got goals from Wyatt Johnston and Jacob Peterson.

Today’s games feature the St. Louis Blues vs. Toronto at 3 p.m. while the Blue Jackets will tussle with the Stars at 7 p.m.

NHL signings

The New York Islanders announced five new signings yesterday. Forwards Dmytro Timashov and Otto Koivula signed one-year, two-way deals for the league minimum. Defensemen Paul LaDue did the same. Forward Cole Bardreau inked a two-year, two-way deal for the league minimum to remain with the organization. while forward Andy Andreoff came over from the Philadelphia Flyers by signing a two-year, two-way contract. The Vegas Golden Knight signed defensemen Dylan Coghlan to a two-year contract worth $15.25 million. Coghlan appeared in 29 games with the Golden Knights and produced three goals and three assists. (Knights On Ice)

The Chicago Blackhawks signed defensemen Nolan Allan to an entry-level contract. Allan was selected in the first round (32nd pick) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. (Second City Hockey)
