Juraj Slafkovsky scored twice and added an assist, Phillip Danault and Cole Caufield each had a goal and an assist, Nick Suzuki collected three helpers, and Jakub Dobes made 25 saves for the Montreal Canadiens, who opened the Eastern Conference Final by throttling the rusty Carolina Hurricanes by a 6-2 count at Lenovo Center. Alexandre Texier and rookie Ivan Demidov also lit the lamp in a four-game first period for the Habs. Seth Jarvis and Eric Robinson scored, and Frederik Andersen made 16 saves for the Hurricanes. It was Carolina’s first loss of the postseason.
