Tuesday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers GameDay Open Forum

The Cats officially recalled C/F Scott Timmins (above) from San Antonio Tuesday morning. it’s the first potential NHL action for the Hamilton, Ontario native in quite some time, dating all the way back to March of 2011, a season in which he saw participation in 19 games (1G/minus-1/18 hits/11 BkS) on a horrendously bad team that finished 30-40-12 (72P). Not the best atmosphere for an up-and-comer, but them’s the shakes as they say.

We learned only recently that center Stephen Weiss has traveled to Toronto due to a death in his family. Our most sincere condolences to a terrific individual who has had a very rough stretch on and off the ice of late.

Jose Theodore should be back in net this evening after a somewhat extended period away from game action, having last seen playing time on February 18 (a home loss vs the Leafs). Rested or not, his 20-5-1-3 career record against Pittsburgh is outstanding. Given Scott Clemmensen’s 4-6-2 vs the Pens, there’s not much of a decision to be made here.

Other than what may amount to some “bad blood” between the Cats and Penguins following Erik Gudbranson’s (legal) hit on Evgeni Malkin Friday – resulting in a possible concussion for the reigning league MVP – it’s pretty standard goings-on from here forward. Expect to see Tomas Vokoun (4-2-2, 2 SO vs FLA) get the start for Dan Bylsma’s Boyz.
