Alex Newhook scored the series-winning goal 11:22 into overtime to lift the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres in Game 7 at KeyBank Center. First period tallies from Phillip Danault and Zach Bolduc gave the Habs an early two-goal lead, but the host Sabres would fight back to tie the tilt. Jordan Greenway was credited with Buffalo’s first goal with 6:19 left in the second period and Rasmus Dahlin’s marker at 6:27 of the third evened it up. Jakub Dobes bounced back from poor performance in Game 6, finishing with 37 saves to earn the Second Star honors. The Canadiens advance to meet the undefeated Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final.
