Panthers add forward, future draft pick with fifth round selections

Last year, Dale Tallon traded the team’s 2015 third round pick for the New York Islanders 2014 third round pick in order to take Juho Lammikko, a forward that the team obviously liked.

This year, the Cats returned the favor, and swapped the 147th pick for the Islanders’ 2016 5th-rounder, so that the Isles could grab defenseman Ryan Pilon.

Seeing as Nikita Korostelev was still on the board, I would have preferred Tallon to make the Russian winger the selection at 147, but this trade helps the team out next year.

The Cats used the first pick they had in the fifth round, as forward Karch Bachman was taken 132nd overall. Bachman played for Culver Prep this season. stats courtesy of Elite Prospects:

Overall, he’s a fast, hard-working forward who stands at 5’11” and weighs about 180 pounds. He pushes the puck to the net, and uses his skating ability to hound opponents all over the ice. Not a bad pick up for 132nd overall.
