Memorial Cup: Josh Brown, Generals book a spot in the final with 2-1 win over Rockets

After dispatching Connor McDavid and the rest of the Erie Otters in the OHL final, the Oshawa Generals have continued their winning ways at the 2015 Mastercard Memorial Cup. The Generals defeated the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets 2-1 last night to complete robin round play with a perfect 3-0 record. The victory put Oshawa in Saturday’s final.

Cole Cassels opened the scoring with a goal, from Dakota Mermis and Michael Dal Colle, at 4:15 of the second period.

The Generals added to their lead later in the frame when Tobias Lindberg lit the lamp. Sam Harding and Anthony Cirelli drew the helpers on Lindberg’s third of the tournament.

Kelowna struck back 55 seconds later when Gage Quinney bagged his fourth of the tourney. The goal was set up by Tyson Baillie and Madison Bowey.

Oshawa captain and Florida Panthers prospect Josh Brown finished the game with one shot on goal, one hit and a +1 rating.

Ken Appleby made 20 stops to get the win while Jackson Whistle turned aside 27 shots in a losing effort for the Rockets, who wrapped up opening round play with a 1-2 record.

Chris Clapperton and the Rimouski Oceanic will take on QMJHL rival, the Qubec Remparts tonight at 7:30 pm.

Rimouski must win or they will be eliminated and Quebec will take on Kelowna in the semifinal game. If the Oceanic are victorious (giving the three remaining teams 1-2 records), a tie-breaker will be used to decide who finishes in second place and goes straight to the semis while the other two teams will play head-to-head on Thursday for the other semifinal spot. Confused? You won’t be, after this week’s episode of… Soap.
