The Florida Panthers enter the week on a four-game losing streak that they will try to halt tomorrow night in Boston in Brad Marchand’s return to TD Garden. Florida got blanked 3-0 by former goaltender Alex Lyon and the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. In addition to playing the Bruins, the Panthers will host the Pittsburgh Penguins (Thursday) and Vegas Golden Knights (Saturday) this week at Amerant Bank Arena.
While the Cats are struggling, things are much more positive down on the farm. The Charlotte Checkers won their first two home games of the season, sweeping a back-to-back against the Iowa Wild, to up their record to 3-1. Jack Devine leads the team in scoring with six points (2G/4A). Wilmer Skoog is right behind him with five (2G/3A) and Ben Steeves leads the team in goals with four. Cooper Black has started all four games for the Checkers and posted a .890 save percentage and 2.78 GAA.
Arvid Drott scored a power-play goal to complete the scoring in Djurgarden’s 4-3 loss to Skelleftea in action from Sweden’s J20 Nationell. The goal was Drott’s seventh of the season. He has recorded 11 points in nine games played.
Yegor Midlak, who was making just his second appearance of the season, delivered a quality start, but didn’t get enough goal support in MHK Spartak-MAH’s 2-1 loss to Dinamo-Shinnik in action from Russia’s MHL.
Shamar Moses registered two shots on goal and finished with a -1 rating for the North Bay Battalion in a 3-2 shootout win over the Barrie Colts in OHL action. Moses has two goals and an assist in nine games played.
