Monday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Offseason Open Forum

The Minnesota WIld and restricted free agent Nino Niederreiter avoided arbitration by agreeing to a new five-year, $26.25 million contract that will keep the center in the Twin Cities through the 2021-22 season. The 24-year-old Niederreiter set career-highs last year with 25 goals, 32 assists and 57 points.

Sunday’s other signing saw the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins re-up left wing Conor Sheary to a three-year contract worth $3 million per season. Sheary totaled 53 points (23G/30A) in 61 regular season games and added 7 points in the playoffs.

The 2018 NHL Entry Draft will take place in Dallas, Texas next year. The draft will be held over two days – Friday, June 22 (Round 1) and Saturday, June 23 (Rounds 2-7) at American Airlines Arena.

The Florida Panthers currently hold seven picks, one in each round, in the draft. Florida still has their own picks in rounds one, three, five, six and seven; the Arizona Coyotes pick in round two, and the Vegas Golden Knights selection in the fourth round. Hopefully, those two teams have bad seasons, really bad.
