The Charlotte Checkers went on the road and swept the Iowa Wild over the weekend to raise their record to 8-4-1 after thirteen games.
On Friday, Wilmer Skoog scored a pair of goals to power the Checkers to a 4-3 win in front of 6.307 souls at Casey’s Center. Brett Chorske and Marek Alscher also lit the lamp for Charlotte. Rookie Gracyn Sawchyn collected two assists and Mike Benning, Sandis Vilmanis, Tobias Bjornfot and Ben Steeves also contributed helpers. Cooper Black stopped 22 shots to pick up his sixth win of the season.
Saturday’s rematch saw Kirill Gerasimyuk make 17 saves to record his first AHL win and shutout in just his second start in the league as the Checkers won by a 2-0 count. Jack Devine opened the scoring 8:19 into the second from Trevor Carrick to give the 22-year-old Gerasimyuk all the offensive support he would need. Skoog matched Devine for the team lead in goals (6) with 8:32 left in the third, with the assists going to Benning and Ryan McAllister.
Charlotte will play back-to-back road games against the Grand Rapids Griffins this weekend.
Vladislav Lukashevich scored a goal and added an assist in Miami’s 6-2 loss to Western Michigan in Saturday NCAA action. Lukashevich has two goals and 11 points in 10 games this season.
Tyler Muszelik made 16 saves in UConn’s 4-3 overtime win over Northeastern. Muszelik is 6-3-2 with a .925 save percentage and 2.34 goals against average.
Connecticut defenseman Brendan Dunphy finished the game with a -1 rating. Dunphy has three assists in 11 games played this season.
Arvid Drott scored the game-opening goal in Djurgarden’s 4-3 win over Timra in Saturday action from Sweden’s J20 Nationell. Drott has eight goals and 15 points in 13 games played this season.
Olof Glifford delivered a quality start for Oskarshamn in a 3-1 win over Vimmerby in Sunday action from Sweden’s Hockey Allsvenskan. Glifford is now 5-6-0 with a .907 save percentage and 2.43 goals against average.
Stepan Zvyagin was held off the score sheet in HC Dinamo-Molodechno’s 2-1 loss to HK Vitebsk in action from the BETERA Extraleague in Belarus. Zvyagin is on a four-game pointless streak, but still leads the team in scoring with 22 points in 25 games.
Shamar Moses fought Hayden Barch during the first period of North Bay Battalion’s 6-5 shootout win over the Saginaw Spirit in OHL action. Moses also took an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty prior to the fight. The 18-year-old has 10 points (4G/6A) in 18 games this season.
Linus Eriksson was credited with one shot on goal and two hits in Timra IK’s 4-2 over Frolunda HC in Satruday action from the Swedish Hockey League. Eriksson won nine of the 14 draws he took. Eriksson has two points in 19 games this season.
Simon Zether won one of six faceoffs and finished with a -1 rating in Rogle BK’s 3-2 loss to Vaxjo Lakers. Zether has a goal and an assist in 16 games played.
Albert Wikman was credited with a blocked shot in 4:20 TOI in Farjestad BK’s 1-0 loss to Linkoping HC. Wikman has appeared in 14 SHL games this season.
