Monday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers and NHL Playoffs Open Forum

The Anaheim Ducks overcame two deficits to beat the Nashville Predators by a 5-3 count last night at Honda Center. Five different Ducks lit the lamp, Ryan Getzlaf had three assists, and John Gibson made 30 saves as Anaheim evened the Western Conference final at a game apiece.

Pittsburgh will host the Ottawa Senators tonight at PPG Paints Arena (NBCSN – 8 pm). The Penguins need a win to avoid going to Ottawa down two games to none.

In Florida Panthers news, Nick Bjugstad finished with a +2 rating in Team USA’s 6-1 romp over Slovakia at the 2017 IIHF World Championship. Bjugstad had no points or shots on goal, went 1 for 2 on faceoffs and took a tripping minor in 12:06 TOI. The U.S. team, which clinched a spot in the quarterfinals with the win, will finish group play on Tuesday against Russia.

Denis Malgin had one shot on goal, went 6 of 9 on faceoffs, and took a roughing minor in 15:31 TOI in Switzerland’s 3-2 overtime loss to Finland. The Swiss team is currently in third place in Group B.

Jason Demers and Mike Matheson will be in action today when Canada takes on Norway in Paris.
