Hilary Knight scored the final marker in the United States 3-0 victory over Finland on Sunday night, tying Cammi Granato’s U.S. record for goals in women’s world hockey championship play with 44. Grace Zumwinkle and Kelly Pannek also lit the lamp and goaltender Nicole Hensley made 10 saves for the undefeated Americans. Meeri Raisanen stopped 36 shots for Finland. Zumwinkle has scored in both of the U.S. wins.

Host Canada cruised to a 5-1 win over Russia to join the Americans atop Group A at 2-0. Sarah Fillier, Ella Shelton, Erin Ambrose, Melodie Daoust and Rebecca Johnston scored the goals and Ann-Renee Desbiens made six saves, allowing only Olga Sosina’s power-play tally with one second remaining.
In action from Group B, the Czech Republic doubled-up Hungary by a 4-2 count. Teresa Radova, Daniela Pejsova, Vendula Pribylova, and Denisa Krizova scored for the Czechs, while Reka Dabasi and Fanni Gasparics scored for Hungarians. With a 2-0 record, the Czech Republic is a virtual lock to be one of the three teams from Group B to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Philadelphia Flyers agreed to terms with defenseman Travis Sanheim on a two-year contract worth $9.35 million, avoiding an arbitration hearing scheduled for August 26. Sanheim, 25, appeared in 55 games with the Flyers last season and produced 15 points. (Broad Street Hockey)
Sanheim was the last remaining player among the 19 restricted free agents who had an arbitration hearing scheduled; each of them agreed to a contract before his hearing date. 17 players elected arbitration and there were two club-elected cases.
