Panthers at Devils: Three Questions With All About the Jersey

John Fischer, the Managing Editor at All About The Jersey, answered some Devil’s specific questions in the lead up to tonight’s contest.

Kevin (Litter Box Cats): You’d been kind of spoiled for the last two decades at goaltender, with Martin Brodeur a constant between the pipes. Is Cory Schneider a stopgap or a long-term solution?

John (All About The Jersey): Cory Schneider is the answer in net for the foreseeable future in New Jersey. Schneider has been a consistent 92+% goaltender in all situations since 2010 and he’s been nothing short of sensational in New Jersey. As the skaters developed issues ranging from poor tactics to a general lack of offense, Schneider has kept the Devils in many more games than they have any right being in. At age 29 and singed through 2021-22, the Devils have committed to the man. Given how well he has played, he has earned every cent.

Kevin: Mike Cammalleri, Kyle Palmieri, and Adam Henrique rank as the most consistent scoring options on the Devils. Aside from these obvious three, which player is most likely to cause trouble for Roberto Luongo?

John: Unfortunately, that’s pretty much it in terms of consistent scoring options. Technically the answer would have to be Lee Stempniak. With five goals, fifteen assists, and 57 shots on net, he’s been the most productive forward. He also has been skating with Cammalleri and Henrique at even strength and (I think) the power play as well. Stempniak is a hard working player and he’s definitely not an anchor on that unit. However, he isn’t what I would call an offensive player. That said, he could be getting in close and causing enough havoc for the Panthers defense to make Luongo work a little harder than he would have to. All three on that line are decent passers of the puck and they’ve been quite good in possession. Outside of that line, it’s really just hoping that Patrik Elias turns back the clock on a shift or someone gets fortunate (e.g. Stefan Matteau scoring from the goal line on Friday, Jacob Josefson not missing on a scoring chance). The absence of Travis Zajac looms large.

Kevin: In Lou We Trust had become quite an internet institution. What kind of reaction have you had from the fanbase after having had to change the name of your blog after Lou Lamoriello’s removal at GM in New Jersey?
John: The initial reaction to the news was a constant question of “What are you going to change the name of the site to?” Even from SBN, I got that question prior to being asked, you know, personally about what that would be. I knew immediately it had to change. After discussing it internally, we came up with three options (out of many that didn’t make it to the public or were even guessed) and presented it to the readers as a poll. You can read in the comments to the news that the site’s name would change, the post of the poll and the post announcing the name that there were many long time readers that either A) didn’t want a change and B) didn’t want it to be any of the choices available, including the winner: All About the Jersey. That said, like the news of Lou leaving for another organization, it didn’t take long for the initial shock and awe to fade. I still hear or get asked about the old name, but in time, that’s shifting away as AATJ is accepted more and more every day.

By any name, AATJ continues to be the best New Jersey Devils’ source on the internet. We’d like to thank John for taking the time to answer our questions. Check out All About The Jersey for my answers to his questions, and tune in for tonight’s game at 7 PM. The GameThread goes live at 6:30-ish.
